Kirsten Petersen, Aarhus Stamp Club

The first flight of an aircraft from Randers took place in 1910, when Robert Svendsen - the first person to fly across the "Øresund", a narrow stretch of water between Denmark and Sweden - gave the general public a modest display of his aircrafts flying capabilities from the confines of the military parade area. He was airborne for 3½ minutes during which he is said to have attained a height of approx. 30 meters AGL.
The first flying club at Randers was established in 1935 by amongst others Poul Buchtrup. However, the Randers Flying Club as we know it today, was formed first on 17th. May 1965. The members immediately proceeded to lay the foundations for a small grass strip at the present location of Randers Airfield, and on 16th. August 1967 it received the approval of the Danish Civil Aviation Authority. Its inauguration ceremony took place less than one month later, on 2nd September 1967.
The first hangar was built in 1968 and many have followed since. In 1988 the grass landing strip was superseded by an asphalt runway, taxiways and parking area which has served  the needs of club members, the surrounding community and visitors alike unchanged to the present day.
